The Alhambra is a fortified hill above Granada holding a Nasrid palace complex, a Renaissance palace Charles V dropped in the middle of it, and the Generalife gardens. The Nasrid Palaces are the reason to come and the reason to plan: entry is by timed slot, the slots sell out weeks ahead in season, and your ticket admits you at that time and not another. Everything else on the hill is more forgiving. Allow three hours minimum, more if you walk up from the city rather than taking the bus — it is a steep twenty-five minutes through the Cuesta de Gomérez. Bring the passport or ID you booked with; they check it.
