Description
Hidden Forest Elephant Reserve is an ethical elephant sanctuary in the hills of southern Phuket, co-founded by elephant specialists Mr Kong and Louise Rogerson. It is home to four female elephants rescued from the tourist riding industry, who now roam freely, socialise and play in the ponds, streams and mud wallows.
Your day starts with pickup from your Phuket hotel in an air-conditioned van. After an introduction video, you meet and feed the elephants, then walk through the forest, stopping at bamboo observation huts to watch them. There is no set route: the elephants roam and forage, and the group stops when they stop. You can also help apply a mud treatment to their skin.
The forest is also a safe place for wild birds, with eagles and egrets seen daily, plus butterflies and dragonflies. The visit ends with a vegetarian meal cooked by local people, then the guide and driver take you back to your hotel.
